As food costs rise and salaries are not keeping pace with inflation, food insecurity is increasing in the suburbs. Now even in the suburbs many people have a hard time providing food for themselves and their families.
We
partner with the Akron Foodbank and Cuyahoga Valley Church to
distribute a combination of non-perishable and perishable food once a month to the Medina county area.
We
typically distribute food on the third Saturday of each month. The hours are from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
Volunteers help with food delivery, food packaging or with food distribution.
FOOD DELIVERY
We pickup food from the Akron Foodbank at 12:30 on the third Friday of each month and bring the truck back to Cuyahoga Valley Church Broadview Heights. The Akron Foodbank loads the palates of food onto the truck using forklifts so no heavy lifting is required to help with this activity.
The following day, on the third Saturday of each month, we drive the truck from the Broadview Heights Campus to the Brunswick Campus of Cuyahoga Valley Church.
We need help driving the box truck on both the third Friday and the third Saturday of each month. Volunteers wishing to help with this phase will need to complete a quick driving background check to be able to drive the truck.
FOOD PREPARATION
The truck containing food arrives at Cuyahoga Valley Church Brunswick around 8:00 am on the third Saturday of each month, and the food preparation begins.
Depending on weather, we may be outside in the parking lot or inside the church. In this phase, volunteers are setting up tables, unloading the food from the truck, and preparing for distribution.
FOOD DISTRIBUTION
Food distribution begins at 10:00 am. It is at this time that we have the opportunity to encourage and pray with people in the community. Volunteers to help with registration, helping people put the food in their cars, and encouraging and praying with them.
